Household Cavalry in Frankel colours

Racing Post Frankel P1The colours of an owner have never been seen like this before.  The Household Cavalry, in tribute to Frankel before he makes his final racecourse appearance at Ascot in the QIPCO Champion Stakes, wore the green, pink and white silks in Hyde Park.

The stunning sight was set up by the Racing Post in an exclusive photoshoot and the pictures were on the newspaper's front page (right) and page four two days before Frankel's big day.

Joggers, commuters and tourists stopped to gaze as the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment paraded in Khalid Abdullah's racing colours.

The riders were preparing for a state visit by the president of Indonesia but they appeared to relish the diversion.

Many of riders hoped to be at Ascot to see Frankel's 14th - and last - race.

Captain Fred Hopkinson, one of the organisers, told the Racing Post: "It's a novelty and very exciting for us all.  Frankel is a horse who embodies all of that grit, courage anf flair that we strive for in the Household Cavalry."
