Becoming an Owner

• Register as an owner
  Owners can register to be an owner online using the Racing Admin website here.
   
• Types of Racehorse Ownership
  Do you want to become involved in sole ownership or co-ownership?
   
• BHA registration fees
  All owners need to register with the BHA for a variety of ownership elements such as registration as an owner and registration of colours. Members of the ROA are entitled to a 20% discount on most BHA registration fees.
   
• Third Party Liability Insurance
  Owners are currently vulnerable to claims even when their horse is in somebody else’s possession, so it is strongly advisable to ensure that you are covered for your interest in a racehorse. This is an automatic benefit for ROA members.
   
• Training Agreement
  The Rules state that it is a requirement that a signed training agreement exists between any owner and their trainer. Download a BHA endorsed training agreement template, drawn up together and recommended by both the ROA and NTF.
   
• Sponsorship and registering for VAT
  Owners who secure sponsorship for their racing activities can register for VAT and reclaim VAT on the purchase of a horse and racing expenses such as training fees. The ROA currently sponsor horses that are owned by members.
