ROA chief executive Michael Harris has hailed one aspect of the 2011 fixture list as a very important development for racing.
Writing in the Racing Post, he said: “For the first time ever, a number of fixtures will take place only once an agreement has been reached between the Horseman’s Group and the racecourses/ racecourse groups wishing to put on those fixtures.
“The failure of the betting industry to contribute a reasonable amount for racing has rightly created considerable concern about the future funding of racing, but the industry should see the creation of these agreements as a unique development with very positive implications for the future.”
